My Journey of Discovery: When I Learned I Was Immune-Compromised.

When I found out I was immune-compromised, I was nine years old. As a nine-year-old, I wasn’t fully aware of our oppressive sex culture; therefore, the way I internalize my HIV diagnosis created a disconnect between the adults that knew about my status and me. 

HIV compromises my immune system, and to prevent HIV from doing so; I take my medicine. Taking care of my immune system is easy and doesn’t worry me.

What worries me is how our culture uses HIV to oppress people’s sexual expressions instead of focusing on immune care.

Many people believed an HIV diagnosis is the end of a person’s sex life; I believe it’s a time of awakening to the beginning of detaching ourselves from our oppressors.

My ultimate goal is to encourage self-love and to empower you to speak up to design a relationship that fits your needs, especially for individuals living with HIV.
